How To Make Protein Oats - Protein Oatmeal Recipe

Have you heard of protein oats before? I never heard of them and came up with this random idea to add protein powder to my oatmeal for my backpacking breakfasts. (If you are interested check out my backpacking recipes here). I thought it was the best idea ever. Add calories, add protein, get a boost of energy in the morning. I mean it is a win, win win right?!!

Funny enough, I wasn’t the only one who thought about this. When I found out that it wasn’t a new idea, I was a little bummed to be honest. I thought I was being so creative and innovative lol.

Non the less, it is still a really good idea and has become a staple recipe in my home even when I am not out backpacking. It is great for when you want an easy healthy breakfast and if you are trying to add more protein into your diet.

How To Make Protein Oats - Protein Oatmeal Recipe

How To Make Protein Oats - Protein Oatmeal Recipe

Ingredients:

  • 1/2 cup Oatmeal

  • 1 cup water or milk (depends on how thick you want it. I use water)

  • 1/2 scoop of vanilla protein powder

  • 1/2 cup berries of choice

Directions:

  1. Add oats to a bowl

  2. Cover with water

  3. Put in the microwave for 1 minute - If there is still water add 30 seconds until oats are cooked

  4. Add vanilla protein powder

  5. Top with fruit of your choice

  6. Optional: top with cinnamon, sliced almonds, coconut shreds, etc.

Serving Size: Makes 1 serving

Protein oats are my favorite in the winter when it is cold and rainy or snowy out. There is just something about having a hot bowl of goodness in the morning that makes everything seem right.
