Dehydrated Smokey Sweet Mustard Jerky Recipe by Adventuring of a Small Town Girl - Recipes for Backpacking - Recipes for Adventures - Recipes for the trail Beef Jerky Recipe

I especially love recipes where you don't have to do much as time is so valuable these days. Dehydrator recipes are a must when trying to eat healthy and get ready for the trail. This Recipe for backpacking is a go to for sure. I typically make a few different jerky snacks all at once. This way I save time, get multiple flavors, and don't have to do so much cleaning :) Check out these jerky recipes if you want more flavors.

Ingredients:

  1. 1 lb beef top round steak. You can use other cuts of meat if preferred. You can even use meats like deer, elk, etc.

  2. 2 oz mustard

  3. 4 oz real maple syrup

  4. 1 tsp sea salt

  5. 1/2 tsp liquid smoke

  6. 2 oz water

Directions:

  1. Slice meat into 1/4 inch pieces with a sharp knife.

  2. Combine all ingredients into a bowl and mix well with a whisk.

  3. Place meat into a glass container. I use this 6 cup glass pyrex bowl.

  4. Pour marinade ingredients over the meat. Make sure that the meat is covered well.

  5. Cover with a lid, and marinate 12-48 hours. *Note: The longer you marinate the meat the more flavor it will have.

  6. Place in a mesh dehydrator tray.

  7. Dehydrate at 165°F for 6-8 hours. Note: Keep an eye on your jerky to make sure it doesn't get too dry. When it looks cooked and bends instead of snaps then it is ready! I put mine in while I sleep. Typically when I get up in the morning it is ready :)

  8. Remove from dehydrator and let cool. Then separate into bags for your adventuring.

Makes 8 servings
