What did I change during week 6?

Mermaid Hair Mist for Natural Hair Care
Quick View

I didn’t change anything during week 6.

I applied the rice water whenever worked for me, but honestly, I think applying it at night would be the absolute best idea. Right before you go to bed. Now the only reason I say this is because the rice water is smelly. I felt kinda bad for my man always having to deal with me smelling like stinky rice water lol.

Other than that…. I am also still using my amazing Mermaid Mist. I LOVE THIS STUFF!!!

Things you need to make Rice Water for Hair Growth

My Week 6 Week Results of using rice water for hair growth

My hair grew another .25 inches during week 6. This was the average throughout the 6 week challenge. As I have said in my previous articles, I am not positive that my hair was actually growing .25 inches ever week or if it just wasn’t breaking off. The rice water seemed to make my hair stronger and my split ends were few and far between.

Starting out my hair was 14 inches long. It was the shortest, thinnest it has litterally ever been. I was super sad about it and to be honest didn’t realize how much I love my hair and how much confidence my hair gives me. With my hair being that short and thin my confidence plummeted. I found out that I put quite a bit of self worth and value in my hair. Now, I never ever thought I was like that. I thought I could definitely be one of those girls that buzzed their hair and it wouldn’t effect me but now I know that is far far from the truth.

By the time I ended this 6 week challenge my hair was almost 16” long! It was amazing to see it grow. I was shocked that the rice water was actually working and helping my hair get longer.

On the left you can see how short and thin my hair was when I started the challenge. You can also see how curly my hair got during this challenge. On the right is a final image that I randomly took while on vacation after about a week after the challenge was complete.

Considerations for starting a 6 week challenge / Things I learned or would do different:

  1. Expect your hair to get longer! Yay!

  2. Rice water is smelly. It is fermented so expect it to smell.

    • You can use lavender like I did, but it doesn’t completely mask the smell. You will still smell like fermented rice water with a hint of lavender.

  3. Make sure you start fermenting your rice water early so you don’t run out

  4. Use rice water at night. Put it in prior to going to bed and then take a shower in the morning to rinse it out.

  5. Use a good shampoo. I love Olaplex Shampoo and Conditioner

  6. I also use a coconut oil mask every once in awhile. Sometimes once a week and sometimes every other week.

  7. Make sure to take a break after your 6 weeks. Give your hair a bit of a break before you continue after the 6 weeks.

  8. If you have curly hair don’t be surprised if your hair gets way curlier. My hair hasn’t ever really been super spiral curls but after using rice water my hair got uber curly. Not sure if this was just a coincidence but something I wanted to point out.

Products that I found during my rice water challenge was a rice water hair care line by Mielle . Now that this challenge is complete I am going to try and use these products to see how they compare with using fermented rice water.

So, have you tried rice water for hair growth or are you thinking about trying it? Comment below! I would love to hear your experience with it, or your questions about starting!

Wishing you nothing but amazing days and beautiful hair!

Bess
