Postpartum Recovery Kit For Mama - 10 Essential Postpartum Care Kit Items

Postpartum Recovery Kit For Mama - 10 Essential Postpartum Care Kit Items

I cannot believe that I am in my 40th week of being preggo! Like where did the time go?!!! With that, I have to admit I am getting a bit nervous. I started gathering quite a bit of things for my postpartum journey and wanted to share it with you.

Now, why am I sharing this? Well, because:

  1. I am a first time mom

  2. Have absolutely no idea what is in store for me in the near future and really what to expect

  3. Have done quite a bit of research on what I need to get

  4. Want to help other first time mamas!

Believe me, I have looked through so many blog posts, so many Pinterest ideas, asked all my sisters, asked my mom, talked to other ladies on social media, about all things postpartum.

I wanted to be able to save you some time and share what I have learned talking to all these wonderful ladies!

Ok, without talking much more lets get into it!

Here are my top 10 items that I found to be absolutely essential for your postpartum journey.

1. Peri Bottle -

This is basically your new toilet paper for the next few weeks. I would suggest getting a peri bottle that has multiple streams of water. Believe me, spreading the water stream out is going to really help. One stream of water feels like a pressure hose and will hurt like a lot!

2. Maxi Pads

You will unfortunately be bleeding for weeks and you cannot use a tampon, so maxi pads it is.

3. Adult Diapers

Believe me, just go with the diapers for when you are going to bed. You won’t have that worry that you are going to bleed through anything and man that peace of mind is amazing. Plus, they are pretty comfy and almost as thin as underwear so that is a plus!

4. Perineal Pain relief (Dermoplast)

You cannot pass on this. Well, I mean you can, but you are going to want some sort of perineal pain relief. Always consult with your doctor before using medicine, pain reliever, etc.

5. Perineal Ice Packs and/or things to make padsicles

The hospital gave me quite a few ice packs and when I used all those up I started making my own. They are super easy to make. All you need is Witch Hazel, Aloe Vera gel, maxi pads, and a freezer.

6. Nipple Cream

If you are nursing or pumping, this will save your tatas. You are going to want some sort of nipple cream. I ended up buying the Sensible Organic Nipple Cream. Honestly, I just looked around, this one looked good so I bought it. I didn’t do much research on which brand to buy so make sure you choose the one that is right for you.

7. Stool Softener

I didn’t think I was going to need this but my doctor told me it is a must have. Everyone was saying how bad it was going to hurt the first time you had to go. I believed that, but I just didn’t think the stool softener was going to work wonders. Man was I WRONG! It made all the difference.

Always talk to your doctor before taking any sort of medication.

8. Pain reliever (Advil, Tylenol, etc)

It hurts down there. That is all I have for you. You are swollen, bleeding, and possibly have stitches from a tear (this was me). I mean, you just birthed a human out of a tiny hole, so….. it hurts down there ! My doctor prescribed me ibprofen so that is what I am talking , but as always talk to your doctor before taking any sort of medication.

Always talk to your doctor before taking any sort of medication.

9. Overnight Nursing bra

You are not going to sleep. The last thing you need is to get frustrated with your bra. Plus, as your milk comes in, you will start leaking a little, so the days of sleeping braless are in the past, at least for the moment. I love the Kindred Bravely bras. They have become my favorite.

10. Witch Hazel Pads

I used the heck out of these. They are cool and provide quite a bit of pain relief. I actually didn’t have to buy any as my hospital gave me a few containers; however, I don’t know if every hospital does that. I honestly didn’t even know about these until my nurse handed them to me. They are pretty awesome!

Before I started really researching everything, and gathering all this information I found a really cool thing at Target. It is called the Frida Mom Postpartum Recovery Essential Kit. I grabbed one just to be on the safe side. I figured it would have everything I needed and definitely have the essentials.

They also had a labor and delivery kit, plus a C Section recovery essential kit.

With that being said, I haven’t used mine at all. The recovery kit that I created and listed above worked perfectly for me.
