Winter Road Trip Essentials For Safety - Go Bag Items For Your Trunk
Winter is approaching really fast, if it isn't already in your area. Sometimes when winter comes around, we feel like we can't do anything. We get this sense of sadness and feeling of all activities are over until better weather. Well, that is far from the truth, but you are going to want to make sure you have some essential items in your car before you go.
This list is strictly for Winter Road trip essentials that you should have in a go bag. You will also want to check out my article on Road Trip Essentials. This way you will get the full list of everything you need for a road trip :)
I personally have a go back. This makes planning for winter road trips easy and you will have all your winter essentials in one spot. So make sure you get a nice little bag to put all these things in that you can keep in the back of your truck or the trunk of your car.
Winter Road Trip Essentials For Safety - Go Bag items:
1.Water and Extra Food
I like to have a few water bottles in my truck along with some food that won’t go bad. Think of things like granola bars, jerky, dried fruit, dried veggies, trail mix, etc.
Check out these healthy snacks for more ideas.
2. Blankets
Blankets are super important in case you break down when it is freezing outside and have to wait for a tow truck. If your car isn’t running, it is going to get cold in a hurry!
3. Lighter
This is something people don’t think much about, but a lighter is a staple in my truck. I make sure to always have a lighter with me in case I need to build a fire.
4. Snow chains
If you are going to be driving anywhere that it potentially snows, you will want to make sure you have snow chains in the back of your car! This way you are prepared for if it starts snowing, or if the road conditions begin to require snow.
Remember, just because there isn’t snow on the ground doesn’t mean you won’t need chains. Alot of counties, departments of transportations, and Parks require chains even when the road doesn’t have snow.
5. Shovel
Have you ever thought you could make it through snow but then got stuck? Well, I have. I tried to drive through some snow and eventually got stuck. Luckily I had a shovel to help me shovel my way out of the situation I got myself into.
6. Warm clothes
This goes along with the blankets. If your car stops running, it is going to get cold super fast! You will want to have an extra jacket, gloves, beanie, etc for your car as a just in case.
7. Hot hands
These things are so super handy! They heat up fairly quickly and stay warm for hours on end! I take these everywhere with me…. road trips, hiking, backpacking, camping… literally everywhere.
8. Emergency Safety Kit
I don’t think I have to go into much detail here. Get yourself a safety kit for your car.
Make sure to check out the road trip essentials post for additional items.
Additional Items:
Emergency roadside car kit
Jumper cables
extra tools
roadside flairs

Note: this is by no means a full list for every situation. These are just some of the essential items you will want to consider bringing with you in order to be prepared
