Why I Stopped Juicing

Oh man was I loving juicing. I was determined to juice for an entire month just to see what happened. It was making me feel amazing, I was actually regular which might be too much information but it is true, I noticed that my energy was up, that I was sleeping better, and really just all around everything seemed a little better.

I am sure you are wondering what I was juicing and how I was juicing it. Well, make sure to check out the link above about my one week results of juicing. In this post I talk about what I was juicing and really my entire juicing regiment. In short I was drinking:

  • 8 ounces of celery juice

  • 1 ounce of carrot juice

  • 1 ounce of ginger juice

All of this was taken in the morning to break my fast.

So after about 2 weeks of juicing I started to form a rash under my nose. Yep, it was a slight rash and I figured it wasn’t any big deal. You see, when I was little I would eat too many carrots, or too much fruit and I would get hives. Well, I figured it was just something like that. i was determined to juice for at least a month to see how it went.

After about 3 weeks, and right before Christmas, the rash spread to both sides of my nose and right under my mouth. The rash as a red rash with quite a few bumps on it. Almost teeny tiny pimple like bumps. The rash didn’t hurt at all. After a few weeks the rash kinda dried out with white flaky skin, however, the skin is still super duper red.

Unfortunately, I ended up giving up thinking my body was upset and telling me something. I figured I really needed to listen to my body. So I stopped juicing right before Christmas and started researching rashes related to juicing.

Well, to my surprise, there are a ton of posts about it.

OBVIOUSLY, I am no expert and want to start of with saying I have no idea about this stuff and am just telling you my experience and what I found.

All sorts of posts about rashes after starting juicing… in particular celery juice. The majority of what I saw was that celery juice can cause a rash, you need to stop juicing immediately, and if it doesn’t go away after 3-6 weeks you need to go to your doctor and get some sort of prescription prescribed. Most of the prescriptions that were talked about was some sort of steroid.

Well, it has officially been 2 months and this stupid rash is still freaking here! I want to continue to juice as the benefits are amazing and I was feeling so awesome. I finally bit the bullet and scheduled a doctor appointment to see what the heck is going on. I decided to set up an appointment with a dermatologist rather than my regular doctor since they are actually a skin specialist.

So, more to come basically. I am craving getting back on juicing. It made me feel amazing . I honestly don’t know if it was the actual juice doing something or if it was more of a mental thing. You know, like you start doing something good for you and all the sudden you feel amazing ? Like a placebo? But honestly I don’t really care. I know it is good for me and it made me feel good sooooo….. I am headed to the doctor. Something that I absolutely HATE! Wish me luck.
