Tips To Drink More Water Everyday
Man I have been on the struggle bus lately when it comes to drinking water. Did you know you are supposed to drink at least half your body weight of water in ounces every day ? So if you are 200 pounds you should be drinking at least 100 ounces of water! It seems like so much when you say it out loud …
Before I started my ‘feel better’ journey I didn’t pay attention to how much water I was drinking. To be honest I think most of my water was coming in the form of coffee. I eventually started tracking my water and it seemed pretty easy to drink about 60 ounces of water every day, but getting past that was a struggle. Eventually I made it to my goal of 80 ounces of water and then eventually after that I noticed I was drinking way more water than even 80 ounces and not on purpose.
Lately, I can’t seem to get myself to drink 50 ounces of water any more. The struggle is real. So, I have been coming up with creative ways to get myself to drink more water, back to my 80 ounce goal, without adding too much preservatives or sugars.
First off lets talk about why you would want to drink more water. What are the benefits? Drinking more water each day
Promotes healthy skin
Aids in weight loss
Can boost your mood
Keeps you hydrated
So, if you are struggling with drinking your water and reaching your water goals like I am check out these tips:
Tips to Drink More Water Everyday
1.Guzzle a cup of water first thing in the morning.
I keep a cup of water by my bed. First thing when I get out of bed I guzzle this cup of water. That is anywhere from 8-16 ounces right as soon as I wake up
2. Set reminders on your phone
This will help remind you that you haven’t had your water. Honestly we all get so busy that we just plain forget. It isn’t like we don’t want to drink the water we just get so caught up in our busy day to day lives and all of the sudden it is 6 o’clock in the evening. A reminder on your phone will help you drink little bits throughout the day.
3. Get a water bottle that you absolutely love
Having a water bottle that you love is essential! You and that water bottle are going to become best friends. If you aren’t happy with it, you aren’t going to want to use it and if you don’t want to use it guess what…. you aren’t going to reach your goals! So spend the little bit extra and get the water bottle that you love!
4. Keep a tracker on your phone
I have a goals tracker on my phone and one of my goals is to hit 80 ounces of water every day. It is pretty awesome because I am obsessed with ‘to do lists’ and this is something that I get to check off of my list every day. It is also something that if I haven’t checked it off by late afternoon I make sure to guzzle some water so I can have that small victory every day.
5. Flavor your water
If I am struggling with water adding some flavor is super helpful. You are going to want to make sure you get some good flavoring that doesn’t have a ton of sugar, artificial sweeteners, or preservatives.
6. Dilute your juices with water
If you love juice try diluting the juice with half juice half water. This way you will be drinking more water and less sugar. It won’t be as strong of course, but it will be yummy too!
7. Opt for sparkling water instead of soda
This might not be the easiest transition but I found that I was wanting soda because I wanted the carbonation. Yes, the flavor of soda is yummy, and the sugar is hard to kick, but the carbonated water really helps to kick that soda habit and also helps to you to meet your water goal so win win win!!
8. Get a bottle with timed goals
I do not have one of these, but people swear by them so I definitely wanted to suggest it as it might be the perfect fit for you
9. Get a bottle that isn’t too big.
For me I love to be able to finish my bottle and fill it up. It gives me a sense of accomplishment. It makes me feel like I am actually getting closer to achieving my goal. If I have a big 64 ounce water bottle that I use every day sometimes I just don’t feel like I am accomplishing anything.
10. Infuse your water with frozen fruit, cucumbers, lemon, etc.
I love doing this in the summer. Whether you add frozen fruits, cucumbers, or a mixture this helps make you feel like you aren’t really drinking water you are drinking something a bit more fancy.
11. Add Lemon
This is something I love to do. Lemon has so many benefits and it helps naturally flavor your water which super helps as well.
12. Use a straw
This is a strange thing and it might just be me, but I drink more water when I use a straw. I think I just mindlessly suck on the straw in meetings, while I am in a car, etc. It is almost like chewing gum… just something to do? I don’t know but if it works for me it might work for you :)
13. Drink tea
This is a good way to add water without the sugar or caffeine.
