Trader Joe’s is legit my favorite ever. Everyone always thinks that Trader Joe’s is crazy expensive but it ISN’T! I used to shop at places like Food Max and Food for Less. The veggies would go bad in about 3 days. One day, right after I did my grocery shopping at Food Max, I decided to walk into Trader Joes just to see what it was all about. I walked through the veggies and began to notice the prices. They were the freaking same as Food Max! Like WHUT?!!!!

Ever since that day I have never stepped foot in a Food Max or Food For Less store.

Now, Trader Joe’s has some amazing snacks and some really good options for hiking snacks and backpacking snacks. I thought it would be fun to compile a list of my absolute favorite hiking snacks that I buy at Trader Joe’s. You can also buy alot of these things from Amazon.

Note: I will link Amazon links, but just know that all of these things are typically at Trader Joe’s. Some of the listings on Amazon are sold in larger quantities / multi packs. You can buy most everything in single packs at the store.

So lets get into it:

Hiking Snack Ideas from Trader Joe’s

Dried Mango, Chili Dried Mango’s, and Freeze Dried Mango’s

The mango’s are hands down my favorite snack from Trader Joe’s. I buy these every time I go to the store. I actually use this not only as a hiking snack, but as an every day snack. They are perfect for road trips, camping, backpacking, and hiking.

The only downfall to these is that they are heavy. Now, the freeze dried ones are also incredibly amazing and taste kinda like candy. Talk about yummy. Plus they are freeze dried so they are freaking light weight, but let me warn you…. you can easily eat the entire bag so be careful.

Any other dried fruit

Trader Joe’s has an insane amount of dried fruit and they are all good. The only dried fruit that I tried and wasn’t too fond of were the apples. For some reason they just weren’t amazing to me… they seemed a little bland.

Trail Mix

Flavored Nuts

Trader Joe’s have some really amazing raw and flavored nuts. Nuts are a great hiking and backpacking snack. They are packed with good calories and fat. They are also something that is incredibly easy to snack on while you are hiking.

Protein Bars

Pretty much everyone’s go to. Either protein bars or granola bars. When you are buying protein bars make sure you check that there is actually protein in them. Most of them are packed with sugar and carbs.

I absolutely love making my own. See my favorite homemade protein bars/ protein bite recipes here

Single Serve Olive Packets

Olives are awesome, salty, easy to eat, and full of fat. These little single serve olive packets are awesome.

Chomps Jerky and Beef Jerky Sticks

Alright, I feel like this goes without saying but I am going to say it anyways. Jerky is pretty much my go to snack! I am OBSESSED with jerky. It is perfect for any travel occasion, or actually any occasion.

When buying jerky you are going to want to check how much salt it contains. Alot of store bought jerky has an intense amount of salt.

If you want to try making your own check out my favorite recipes:

Inner Peas

These things are absolutely amazing! They do crush easily so you will have to make sure you keep them somewhere that they won’t just become powder.

Plantain Chips

Honestly, I am not a fan at all. There are so many people that love these so I had to try them out. They were very plain and really hard. I wanted to mention them because everyone always recommends them, posts about them, and just really raves about them.

Popcorn

Popcorn is my favorite evening snack. This snack is incredibly lightweight and easy to eat.

The only issue with popcorn is the fact that is easy to crush and will ultimately turn to powder so just make sure you keep it in a spot where it won’t get crushed.

Freeze Dried Fruit

AMAZING! SERIOUSLY LIKE THE THE BEST EVER!

I can't say enough about the freeze dried fruit at Trader Joe’s. The only problem with freeze dried fruit is that you can eat the entire bag which is quite alot of fruit. I treat these as my healthy candy :)

Fruit Bars

These things are sweet! Dude I love them. They are made strictly of fruit and are only $1. The are like a granola bar, or a protein bar, but FRUIT! How awesome is that!

I was so freaking stoked when I found these things. They typically have two different fruits in them like the image to the right, apple and strawberry.

These are super tasty. You won’t be upset when you grab on of these.
